Your Design Journal entries for this module should highlight:

  • the design alternatives that you modeled and tested
  • the results of the analyses and how they influenced your thinking about how to move forward

Use text , images, web links, movies... Whatever media works best to express your ideas!

Your Recommendation for the “Best” Design Option

Create a few paragraphs outlining a brief explanation of why you chose this design option as the “best” after comparing your analyses of the proposals. Explain your reasoning and the tradeoffs that influenced your decision about which design option to move forward with.

I wanted to keep things modular and give the stacked appeal. When I think of New York, I see tall skyscrapers. I wanted to give this building some height because the surrounding building are fairly tall. I also wanted to capitalize on the view of the waterfront. Not sure if the massing is exactly how I envision my building to look (my design skills with this software is limited) but I’m excited to keep creating iterations. Also, I am a big fan of organic design but for this project I wanted to explore dynamic geometry and see where these shapes take me. Finally, I wanted the building to feel segmented to showcase the different exhibits and purposes the program will have. However, in the end I need to focus on creating a central place where people can mesh with café and giftshop.

I will continue exploring proposal 2 and 3 and figure out a way to combine both! I’m interested in the shapes from proposal 2 and the stacking it lends itself too. I want to see how incorporate more vertical elements as seen in proposal 3.
