Goal 1: Sustainable Materials

  • Measure:  low carbon footprint and or negative?
  • Targets:
    • locally sourced, no shipping over seas
    • fire resistant
    • biophilic affect - fulfil psychological needs
  • Strategies:
    • one design strategy would be choosing the New York City site, so I don’t have to leave the USA.
    • another is incorporating an exposed structure to highlight the wood appeal and incorporate transitional spaces from outside to inside.

Goal 2: Dynamic and Operable Facades

  • Measure:  activate space, measure relationships between light, environment, view and void.
  • Targets:
    • Give clear signals of private and communal areas
    • Operable shutters
  • Strategies:
    • using certain façade designs, I can bring in light into the exhibition and communal spaces to signal to users where to go.
    • operable shutters can be used to close and open windows which can give the space a glowing appeal at night

Goal 3: Air Circulation

  • Measure:  HVAC systems and interior temperature
  • Targets:
    • keep in heat and circulate cool air for
    • guest are comfortable inside
  • Strategies:
    • one design strategy to work with the operable façade to coordinate weather patterns to produce a comfortable temperature with the air circulation
    • a second design strategy I have researched is mass timber panels keeping in heat

Other Notes:

Create a water retaining system with the possible implication of a green roof. Water captures by roof and used for the building
Really focus on modularity and repetition to make fabrication and building easier
Focus on how light interacts with the mass timber to create a light and open spaces
