My project was inspired by the immersive and imaginative world of Pandora from Disney’s Animal Kindom. My ultimate goal is to make the project a space that not only amazes visitors but also promotes sustainability and interactions. Here are the design intent and goals:
Sustainability - Carbon Footprint and Renewable Resources
- Measure
- Carbon Footprint Reduction
- Measured in terms of tons of CO2 equivalent reduced annually compared to conventional building standards.
- Includes both construction and operational carbon footprint.
- Use of Renewable Resources
- Percentage of building's energy needs met through renewable sources (solar, wind, etc.).
- Proportion of construction materials sourced from renewable or recycled resources.
- Targets
- Carbon Footprint Reduction
- Minimally Acceptable: 40% reduction compared to standard construction.
- Desired/Target Value: 60% or greater reduction.
- Use of Renewable Resources
- 50% of energy needs are met by renewable sources.
- 75% or more of energy needs are met by renewable sources.
- Strategies
- For Carbon Footprint Reduction
- Employ advanced sustainable construction techniques.
- Design the building for high energy efficiency (e.g., superior insulation, energy-efficient windows).
- Implement a green roofing system to provide insulation and reduce the heat island effect.
- Utilize low-impact construction practices to minimize emissions during the building phase.
- For Maximizing the Use of Renewable Resources
- Install solar panels and possibly small-scale wind turbines if feasible.
- Integrate passive solar design principles to reduce the need for active heating and cooling.
- Use recycled materials in construction where possible, such as recycled steel or glass.
- Consider innovative technologies like solar glass or kinetic energy harvesting flooring.
Visitor Engagement and Interaction
- Measure
- Visitor satisfaction ratings (through surveys and feedback forms).
- Repeat visitation rates (tracked over a specific period).
- Social media engagement and mentions.
- Targets
- Minimally Acceptable: 80% positive visitor feedback; 15% repeat visitation rate.
- Desired/Target Value: 95% positive visitor feedback; 25% repeat visitation rate.
- Strategies
- Create immersive installations that change and respond to visitor presence.
- Develop a mobile app to enhance visitor experience with AR and location-based information.
- Offer customizable experiences, allowing visitors to choose their own adventure paths.
Constructability and Operational Efficiency
- Measure
- Construction cost compared to the initial budget.
- Operational efficiency (measured in cost per square foot per year).
- Targets
- Minimally Acceptable: Construction costs within 15% of the budget; operational cost reduction by 10%.
- Desired/Target Value: Construction costs within 5% of the budget; operational cost reduction by 20%.
- Strategies
- Use prefabricated modules for faster and more efficient construction.
- Implement energy-efficient HVAC and lighting systems.
- Design for low-maintenance landscaping and interiors.
Educational Value
- Measure
- Number and diversity of educational programs.
- Participant engagement (attendance and feedback).
- Targets
- Minimally Acceptable: At least 8 different educational programs with good attendance.
- Desired/Target Value: More than 12 educational programs with high engagement and positive feedback.
- Strategies
- Partner with educational institutions and environmental NGOs for program development.
- Use interactive technology to make learning more engaging.
- Schedule regular events like talks, workshops, and exhibitions on sustainability themes.
