Design Inspiration:

(JetBrains Office designed by UNStudio)
When considering building features, the first aspect that comes to mind is comfort. Buildings are constructed to provide spaces where people can not only reside but also engage in various activities. While simple and repetitive designs may be sufficient to meet basic functional needs for individuals, they fail to provide an environment that is conducive to physical and mental health.
I really like the JetBrains office designed by UNStudio. The purpose of this design is to enhance the comfort and well-being of every employee and visitor through three key design elements: connectivity, comfort, and versatility. The building provides flexible indoor and outdoor workspaces to facilitate meetings and collaboration. On the lower levels of the building, there is a large multi-level atrium containing meeting rooms, breakout spaces, and restaurants, all interconnected by winding sky bridges. Those open spaces are also connected with the outdoor courtyard and terraces on each level, providing opportunities for outdoor breaks or meetings while enjoying beautiful views of the Gulf of Finland.

The facade of the lower levels features a zigzagging glass wall that provide the open space with natural light while effectively blocking heat gain. The upper levels of the building are designed for individual and team works. Cantilevers are strategically added at the division of the two volumes to provide additional shading for the lower facade, providing a more comfortable environment for the occupants.

Big Feature Ideas:
- Natural lights can be an impactful element in building design, with numerous benefits for both the well-being of occupants and the overall sustainability of a space. Sufficient natural light is well-known for its positive effects on mood enhancement and stress reduction. It also contributes to visual comfort by reducing eye strain and fatigue. Moreover, the introduction of natural light reduces the use of artificial lighting during daytime, which results in decreased energy consumption and contribution to sustainability. There are many design strategies can be applied to achieve this goal. For example, place windows to maximize the sunlight penetration, introduce skylights or clerestory windows, and use light-reflective surfaces within interiors.
- Sustainability is another import aspect of building design, which relates to the concept of minimizing environmental impact and attaining long-term energy efficiency. Strategies to achieve this goal include the use of eco-friendly materials and the incorporation of renewable energy sources such as solar and wind energy. Additionally, the implementation of green roofs helps with rainwater management while bringing aesthetic appeal to the building. Introducing green elements into the building also helps to create a more relaxed environment for occupants and to promote a healthier lifestyle.
