Design Journal Entry - Module 10

In the architectural layout of my model, particular attention has been paid to the placement and design of restroom facilities to ensure user comfort, privacy, and accessibility. The model incorporates a total of four restrooms, evenly distributed across two levels, with designated male and female restrooms positioned on the west and east sides of the building, respectively. This strategic separation serves to enhance privacy and reduce potential discomfort among users. Additionally, situating one male and one female restroom on each floor ensures that restroom facilities are readily accessible to all occupants of the building, enhancing convenience.

To further optimize the functionality and efficiency of the restrooms, the plumbing design incorporates four-inch diameter sanitary pipes with a slope designed to leverage gravity for waste removal. The hot and cold water supply system employs two-inch diameter pipes, accommodating the spatial arrangement of water closets and lavatories within the restrooms. Given that these fixtures are not located on the same side of the restroom, the piping system is cleverly divided into two branches, which then converge at a central point below the floor. This thoughtful plumbing strategy not only ensures efficient water delivery and waste removal but also aligns with the overarching goals of maximizing user convenience and maintaining the aesthetic integrity of the restroom spaces.
