Observed Behaviors - Arrillaga

I observed the dish cleanup area in Arrillaga. Although it was a bit difficult because some of the cleanup happens behind a wall (so I couldn’t observe it from my seat), I was able to see people composting vs. throwing away their waste. I observed that many individuals had a lot more food waste than I would have expected (meaning that they overfilled their plates). I also observed that people seemed in a rush to cleanup their plates and continue on, and that they often seemed distracted or like they were just going through the motions. I noticed that people seemed to throw everything on their plates into the same bin, regardless of where it was supposed to be sorted. It seemed like most of the time there was not much thought given to the sorting of the trash.
