Storage Space | - | 671 | 2.00% |
Cafe Food Prep Spaces | - | 203 | 0.61% |
Cafe Eating Spaces | - | 513 | 1.53% |
Utility Space | - | 671 | 2.00% |
Stairways | 255 | 3825 | 11.40% |
Lobby | 620 | 620 | 1.85% |
Hallways | - | 6709 | 20.00% |

3 Seminar Rooms | - | 1260 | 3.76% |
2 Large Conference Rooms | - | 1100 | 3.28% |
The category that took the the largest share of exhibition center space is 1. Exhibition Spaces, 2. Hallways, 3. Offices. Several assumptions were made, for example, I assumed only 50 employees will need to use offices. So, this space budget estimation may not be solid and accurate, and it may be edited in later design progress.
Thinking Behind Building Layout
Levels 5-9 were only planned briefly, the use of each space has not been decided yet. The exhibition center I designed had a complicated structure, and each higher floor was smaller than the lower floors. So, to connect each floor, the stairways were placed in a ‘central area’ where they could vertically reach each layer. Two stairways were designed for each level except level 9, where only one stairway was designed to connect levels 8 and 9. Also, one elevator connected all 9 levels. 3 restrooms were designed on level 1, and levels 2-8 only have 2 restrooms. The women’s restrooms were located on every level, and men’s restrooms and gender-neutral restrooms were designed for every other level. This design considered that women in general need more restrooms than men (Info).
Although every floor has different shapes and different plans, most of them still followed some general pattern:
