List your three or four guiding design goals using this format for each goal:

Goal 1: Maximising energy efficiency

  • Measure:  EUI in kBtu/sf
  • Targets:
    • Source EUI: 112 kBtu/sf, Site EUI: 56.2 kBtu/sf - Prescribed by EnergyStar, or LEED Energy and Atmosphere Category
    • Source EUI: 80 kBtu/sf, Site EUI: 30 kBtu/sf (17-25 kBtu/sf)
  • Strategies:
    • HVAC systems: Air Source heat pumps and chillers
    • Passive ventilation: Convectively cooled double-wall building envelopes
    • Daylighting optimization: good WWR, mindful orientation, overhangs and canopies to reflect the light, vertical shades/reflective shades
    • Personal “Big Ass Fans” for individual comfort. These fans oscillate at a certain frequency to let the occupant feel cool like a natural breeze
    • Reduced piping friction
    • Install daylight sensors and occupancy sensors
    • Use LED lights
    • Dedicated Outdoor Air Systems

Goal 2: Integrating with nature and fresh ventilation

  • Measure:  unsure
  • Targets:
    • “Quality Views” from LEED
    • Indoor plants for fresh oxygen and pleasant-to-look-at spaces, in addition to the targets
    • 2 sq m of area of green space visible maximum at a distance of 5 meters
  • Strategies:
    • Have plants lining the open spaces and corridors
    • Have pleasantly designed public spaces with flora
    • Use native flora species

Goal 3: Minimize embodied carbon

  • Measure:  kgCO2e/m2 from EPIC tool
  • Targets:
    • Set by EPIC based on square footage, fullfil LEED criteria for MR
    • At least 40% reduction
  • Strategies:
    • Minimize the use of metal and concrete structures for the building
    • Source wood and other materials locally
    • Follow “Materials and Resources”
