For this module, since I have stacked restrooms on levels 2 and 3 I decided to model these ones. The restrooms on levels 1 and 4 are not aligned, however it seemed like for this module we only needed to model a single stack.
First I modeled the fixtures. I included toilets, urinals, and sinks, and made sure to space them to have reasonably sized stalls. I’ll discuss the challenges associated with the placement of these fixtures more below.
When linking the models, I figured that the sanitary pipes may interfere with the structural beams, so I also decided to show those in coordination view. I did not show the HVAC system, but the same thing would likely arise.
Below shows how I dealt with this challenge, running the pipes beneath the beams.
To address the challenge mentioned during the kickoff of back-to-back fixtures causing issues with the connections, I decided to go with the offset method.
Another challenge was figuring out where to run the pipes. I went back to my architectural model and created a gap between the walls where I could run the pipes. A 1’ gap was sufficient to fit everything.
Below shows the placement of the fixtures and wall offsets to achieve this.
In all, I included hot water and cold water with 1” pipes, and sanitation with 4”/2” pipes and a slope for the horizontal portions. Below shows all of the elements. if you look closely, there was initially an interference between the horizontal sanitary pipe and the cold/hot water risers, but I made sure to move them so that they would not clash.
