  1. Helmet lock compatibility
  • Think about a helmet that has the ability to lock your bicycle when you park it and have to stop somewhere for work or something else.
  • The helmet would include a bicycle lock either in the form of the straps of the helmet being modified or an additional cable coiled up behind the helmet or at a location that does not disturb the user.
  • This would solve the user’s problem of the helmet being a burden to carry wherever they have to go somewhere or stop for work.
  1. Magnetic buckles
  • Some of the feedback I received from the survey was make the handling of the helmet easier so that it feels less bulky, and I kind of feel that most people have to use both hands to sort of work their way through wearing and removing a helmet
  • I think a magnetic buckle with a really strong magnet will reduce the need to use both hands while wearing/removing a helmet. Wearing because I am trying to design the helmet to be really light so just picking it up and attaching the straps using the buckle can be very easy.
  • Unlike traditional buckles that sometimes pinch the skin or snag hair when fastening, magnetic closures smoothly align and snap together without such issues, enhancing user comfort.
  1. Design to accommodate long hair
  • Another important result from the survey was making the natural movement of the head/hair easier.
  • Adding a dedicated space at the back of the helmet to allow for ponytails/buns where the long hair can be successfully gathered is one option.
  • Another option which I had thought of initially too was adjustable dial mechanisms which will allow the cyclist to build the fit around their hairstyle.
  • Cyclists with long hair can adjust the fit system to create space at the rear of the helmet to accommodate a ponytail or bun. By loosening the fit slightly in the back, they can prevent the helmet from pushing hair upward or creating uncomfortable pressure points.
