  • Allie said “My mom came here in the 90s as a refugee from Bosnia in the yugoslavian war. She couldn’t go back home but thinks about going to be by her family who relocated to Norway.”

  • From Bosnia and herz, ancient families that come from engineers and teachings
  • Family is multicultural, most became muslim
  • worked as translater for UN

Key Findings from the Interview

  • Dad would call her whenever he made it to the top of the mountain
  • been thru Katrina, was displaced there
  • Her father was on popular soccer team
  • Worked as notary for document changes
  • Left sarajevo after start of siege
    • hometown is mostar
  • cooked in cellars. when ur fridge is down you have a party and eat it all up
  • her family wanted to stay and save their place, but they told her to leave
  • wanted to take her friend, who is an actor performs singer, with her to escape
  • really didn't want to live in the united states
    • communists were taught how the minorities were treated in the US
  • religious practice was around
  • the bridge was destroyed
  • came to new orlenas june 13 1992
  • she was engaged before her parent were found in 1994
  • doesn't think a therapist would understand
  • visited home with allie and aime (daughters) twice
  • its heartbreaking to visit home. her favorite park became a graveyard
  • people told her “dont come back”
  • some people get too emotional at the cemetery and have her attacks and brain aneurysms
