Key Findings from the Interview

  • recent experience of visiting an urban green area in NYC: visited Washington square park, there were people of all ages (a lot of students, ppl playing skateboarding, etc.), very open park with lots of trees
  • some experiences related to urban greening projects like green roofs, vertical gardens, or living walls: 1. A school campus, a high school in Hangzhou, China, that has moss growing on the wall 2. See trees growing on residential buildings in NYC 3. in Parsons, a lab called healthy material lab (e.g. lecture on using algae to replace for plastic)
  • urban greening projects & reflections in NYC: When looking at them, feel more at peace, think more buildings should adopt this kind of eco friendly projects
  • major differences between novel projects like green roofs and conventional parks: 1. Less accessible than conventional parks, but good use of land; parks invites more ppl in, would actually prefer parks over rooftop gardens.
  • any expectations that haven’t been met by the urban greening projects: Energy preservation—> the current projects and buildings and parks can be more green through perhaps adopting (solar panels and other clean energy…)
