Hello! My name is Lauren Cantin, I am a sophomore from Santa Barbara California studying psychology.

I did elementary, middle, and high school in Santa Barbara then came here. Last year I took a leave of absence to focus on somethings I needed to handle in my personal life but came back this past summer.

I am interested in this course because with everything going on in the world and with the trajectory of the environment thus far, it seems like so using on the environment and sustainability more is not just helpful but necessary. Additionally, after spending a lot of time in nature at my middle school which went on week long bike trips for three weeks out of the year, I found not only an appreciation and love for nature, but also a respect for it.

Additionally, after being struck by a natural disaster resulting in the loss of my home and two family members, the damage we as humans have inflicted on the environment has become more real. The more damage we do to the environment, the mroe these natural disasters will likely take place, thus we need to do everything in our power to stop the damage and shift the focus from mass production to sustainability. This personal impact and experience has peaked my interest in environmental protection and sustainability.

In this course I hope to explore this topic more so then I have done in any other class hear at my time at stanford. I hope to walk out feeling more comfortable with the discussed topics and interacting with the larger sustainability community as a whole.
