Hello, I am Mateo and I am from Monterrey, Mexico. I intend to major in Product Design with a domain focus area on climate/environment. During high school, I worked with TECHO Mexico building sustainable houses in underserved communities near Monterrey by organizing, supervising, and documenting constructions. I was also a volunteer for an NGO called Tseinan which works in Chiapas with underserved children with orofacial clefts. I assisted with its first mission-driven marketing campaign by designing printed brochures to raise institutional awareness, creating digital advertising cards to reach new donors, and producing information sheets with cleft lip nomenclature for doctors and parents to use on operation days. The aspect of the seminar description that immediately grabs my attention is the focus on applying Design Thinking to address pressing sustainability challenges. This resonates deeply with me due to my passion for both design and environmental sustainability. The opportunity to further explore the intersection of design thinking and sustainability in this class excites me immensely. I’m eager to delve deeper into the methodology, collaborate with peers from diverse backgrounds, and work on projects that have the potential to make a tangible difference in promoting sustainable practices and behaviors.
