Composite Character Profile

Hurried Harry

  • Hurried Harry would LOVE to sort his waste correctly, as he is aware of the environmental benefits that come with it and is aware of wider environmental degradation as a result of overconsumption and waste. Today he is late for a meeting with his academic advisor and doesn’t have the capacity to even think about what bin is correct for his waste as he’s leaving. He doesn’t notice what bin he is putting his waste in, it was just the one that required the least deviation from his route to the meeting.
  • Generally he feels pretty guilty after not taking the time to think about his sorting, but how can people expect him to do the right thing when it requires so much thought to do so.

Potential Point of View Statements

Point of View Statement 1

Hurried Harry needs to be provided with a simple system that requires no thought to sort his waste correctly. He is so busy and his mind is so preoccupied that this action should become a reflex so that it doesn’t take up valuable brain power.

Point of View Statement 2

Hurried Harry needs to stop, because if he does, he will spend more time near the bins, increasing the likelihood of sorting correctly.

Point of View Statement 3

Hurried Harry needs to give himself more time between meetings in order to appreciate his time at Stanford. The culture of constantly working has meant that he gives himself very little time to eat and is always in a rush between meetings. If he can be more intentional with his time, he may find himself to have a decreased workload and be more able to sort waste correctly.
