Journal Entry For
Project 1 - Testing Session 1
What did you observe?
What did you observe and note as you watched users interact with your prototypes?
- Strangely, people didn’t quite get parts of the app idea. To drive less was an alien concept for some, which illustrates the problem we’re in with consumerism based capitalist economies.
- Most loved the UI and the flow and simplicity of TILD.
- I noticed that people immediately gravitated to the ‘game competition’ part of TILD since that has the most individual earning potential. There was less interest in the data provision aspect of TILD where the app helps each user drive less at their own individual levels (without monetary benefit).
What feedback did your users share after the testing?
What feedback did your users share after they've had a chance to interact with and explore your prototypes?
- There was strong support for the prototype UI and design. It made sense, was minimalist, and had a good flow. Most of the concerns had been thought through and solved in the alpha prototype UI sketches so there wasn’t a whole lot of input
- There were more questions about the ‘game competition’ aspect of the TILD app i.e. how exactly would it work and how would users participate? Is it free to enroll in the emissions compare game to local users? This helped me think through the gaming strategy, how to incentivize users to participate (and drive less) and how to psychologically associate a cost penalty with driving (in that, if you drive more you don’t get the $20 per 100 mile TILD kickback)
