LOCATION: TRESIDDERS MARKET
1) Electronic ordering kiosks/bulletin boards - tall, thin, rectangular, used for ordering without having to talk to cashiers - could be more energy efficient (LCD display?) + opportunities for renewable energy integration (solar panels + outdoor integration)
2) Fake plant wall - green, tall, rectangular, used primarily for decoration purposes and does not need maintenance - opportunity to transform into a mini ecosystem or for the use of sustainable agriculture (vertical farming + integration into dining services with organic produce)
3) Long taped-off lines - zig-zaggy, haphazard, used to funnel all customers into one location - issue with organization and customer management, inefficient (could be solved with pre-ordering or online ordering beforehand, possibly helped using the electronic kiosks?)
- scan a qr code, allow them to just order their products first and have the staff bring the food over - in conjunction with the Panda Express app, can also move towards sustainability in their own products - combine with Panda Express serving collapsable boxes
4) Overhead hanging lights - bulbous, slightly dim, white, used to illuminate the place - very energy-intensive due to large numbers of them, see #6 for possible solution
5) Coca-cola cooling station - glass, sloped, stores coca-cola and other drinks and keeps them cold (closed system instead to prevent heat from getting in, making it more energy-efficient and cost-efficient for the electrical grid)
6) Generally very closed off room, almost no windows, opportunity for passive solar heating + natural light to come in, gets rid of need for numerous lights and puts less strain on the ac + heater
7) Sloped roof with many grooves, opportunity for rain collection and filtration for drinking water (although this idea is a bit more unrealistic)
8) Screens for menus above the serving table - shows food available, illuminated - could be more energy-efficient, qr code could work so ppl don’t have to wait and decide what they want to get? Even a paper menu taped above could work (despite initial investment), as it doesn’t need to change or be constantly kept on
9) Hats, shirts, pants, and shoes seem to be made from cotton*** - use for protecting skin - could have even more sustainable properties such as implementing upcycled plastic from discarded water bottles, also helps with resource management and saves costs of manufacturing
10) Crammed trash cans - filled with “hollow” cases from panda express → collapsible boxes that the food can be stored in, can simply be flattened and thrown away (can’t be recycled due to food tainted
Hospitality? - use to change behavior
