  • Short Video Posting
  • Viewing
  • Debriefing
‣
WARM-UP EXERCISE (20)
  • Observing the space in and around Wallenberg Learning Theater.
  • A little divergent-convergent thinking.
  • Start looking:
    • What do you see?
    • What do you notice?
    • What intrigued you?
    • What gives you a spark?
    • Where does your curiosity take you?
    • Are you inspired enough to tell others about it?
‣
DESIGN PROJECT 2 KICKOFF
  • Theme: Built Environment & Spaces for Sustainable Communities.
  • In this project, you’ll design a SPACE, PLACE, BUILDING FEATURE, or PHYSICAL INTERVENTION that enables, supports or promotes sustainable behaviors, lifestyles and (usage) practices for a COMMUNITY.
  • Design Project 2 is team-driven.
    • This is a team project. Groups of 3. This group dynamic setting should enable students to learn from each other as well as share their perspectives to foster a healthy collaborative atmosphere.
  • Elevator Pitch event for this project will be on Monday August 5, 2024.

  • Getting Started
  • ‣
Identify a domain that includes the environment/space & the people.

    • Choosing Your Domain — Critical criteria for team:
      • Personal familiarity
      • Access
    ‣
Create a mini-proposal with work plan.
    • Mini-Proposal:
      • Describe what you want to design and the context (who, where, when, why & how). Include (a) a sentence about your team’s personal connection to this context, (b) the sustainability element, and (c) a project code-name. <100 words.
      • Example:

We love playing games. And we are committed to sustainability lifestyles. Our team will design a sustainability gamification teaching & research laboratory in XYZ at Stanford University for students interested in learning & developing product designs that emphasize UX-motivated playability in sustainability human-behavior & human-mindset change. Our team is interested in applying positive psychology with AI machine learning & personal sensor technologies to design frameworks & solutions for clinical & real-world applications in education, healthcare & community well-being, among others. This is PROJECT PINBALL WIZARD.

    • Work Plan:
      • Project Management Practice - Make a table of action items, deliverables, start & completion dates, & who will have primary responsibility for driving & delivering. The header action items should include each of the design thinking components in our process; list specific tasks as sub-items.
      • Example:

        Start
        End
        Action Item
        Deliverable
        Assign
        7/22
