[Observe] I saw my school bag next to my desk. It is a product that utilizes upcycling, which is made of tent covers for abandoned freight trucks. Recently, I observed that many companies are trying to upcycle in various ways other than my bags. For example, my friend's bag is made of discarded fire extinguishing clothes. But I found that upcycling products have their limits, too. Those products also become contaminated, and they become waste that is thrown away when its life is over. However, even if only a part of the bag is damaged, we throw away the bag. For example, if the strap of the bag is broken, we throw away the entire bag. I think this is a big loss when you consider the environment.

[Define] Upcycling products themselves have 'sustainability', but I would like to take it one step further. For 'Define', I would like to use the key statement given by the professor.

[USER] needs to [USER'S NEED] because [SURPRISING INSIGHT]

[User 1] would be a person who uses a bag that is on the verge of being thrown away. His/Her bag was contaminated or torn, rendering it unusable.

[USER'S NEED 1] would be something to replace a broken bag. It could be a new bag, but given the environment, that wouldn't be the answer. Consider a way not to throw away the whole bag he/she was using.

[SURPRISE INSIGHT 1] How about protecting the environment by throwing away only part of the bag, not all of it?

I think my idea can be of great help to other users as well.

[User 2] is a user who is tired of the design of his bag and wants to change his bag. However, buying a new bag is economically burdensome.

[USER'S NEED 2] is 'escape from the hateful design'. However, considering the economic burden of users, it is hoped that a great effect will be achieved at the lowest cost as much as possible.

[SURPRISE INSIGHT 2] Just as people redesign their clothes by patching them, a little design variation can give great satisfaction.

[IDEATE] Product Design I want to design the bag separately in parts so that the user can redesign it. People can easily attach and detach the parts. For this method, I thought of 'zipper'. Also, by installing 'pouch' at the front of the bag, it increases the practicality of the bag and makes it possible to customize it more diversely.

Service Design I want to further preserve the environment by utilizing a sharing/recycling system targeting users. If people who use my brand's bag get tired of the design of their bag, I want to create a system where they can exchange it for others'. Also, if large part of the bag is damaged with little area, then it is sent to the company, the company processes it into small parts and returns it to the user.
