Overview

Replace this text with your reflections on your design journey through class from a higher level and share your insights about the entire experience. What were:

  • Key / Essential / Unique Design Features that you explored in your project.

In the design of this whole new building, the sustainable design of the building is my most important point, and I carry out sustainable design from both the exterior design and internal structure of the building. In terms of the external structure of the building, I designed translucent glass with solar chips on the south side of the building, which greatly improves resource utilization. Secondly, green roofs are also a common sustainable approach. Finally, the gap between the two buildings increases air circulation, which reduces the high temperature of the building to a certain extent. Internally, I chose to use wooden materials as much as possible instead of classic cement, such as cross-laminated timber. The production and use of cement produces a huge amount of embedded carbon dioxide, which is a problem I want to reduce as much as possible.

  • Your Big Successes -- what worked very well and what features you're most proud to share as examples to inspire others.

This is my first time using Revit to draw a complete building. I have only used the Dynamo plug-in in Revit before, and I found that using a programming language to draw manually is a very different experience. It’s hard for me to imagine that I used a software I had never tried to draw a complete building this semester, and included all kinds of details in the building, such as the location of the elevators, the design of the lights, and the ventilation ducts. the design of. At first, I was very worried about whether I would learn this software well. Later, I found that by following the professor's unit settings step by step, I could slowly learn the operation of each design well. Learning a brand new thing is something we often encounter in life. Systematic and structured learning is crucial. We need to have this ability.

  • Your Big Challenges -- what aspects of the project created the biggest challenges and what would you do differently (in hindsight) to avoid or overcome these challenges.

The biggest problem I encountered was that when I was designing the next module, I wanted to overthrow and redesign the previous module. For example, I will find that the space in the design is not enough, the elevator is located too close to the corner, which will affect the placement of the beams, and the heights of the same pipes and beams need to restrain each other. The way to solve these difficulties is: we need to have a global design awareness rather than a single module design. When you have a simple concept and plan for everything in advance, the coordination between these modules will be enhanced.

  • Lessons Learned -- what sage words of advice would you share with other students who are embarking on a similar project.

First, we need to have a good mood. It is inevitable to encounter many small problems. Second, we need to seek help promptly. Sometimes I think small problems seem easy to solve, but they often take a long time to solve, so we need to seek help in time and often.
