Hi everyone!
My name is Tom, I’m an undergrad here at Stanford. I major in symbolic systems with a concentration in human-computer interaction, which is an interdisciplinary program that uses psychology, linguistics, philosophy, and computer science to study how computers affect our lives and our society, and how we can leverage their benefits and assuage their risks. I am particularly interested in how our constantly evolving cultural relationship to technology affects our political system’s ability to respond to complex problems, especially climate change.
Outside of school, I enjoy soccer and other sports, cooking, hiking, and the trading card game magic: the gathering. I also tutor high schoolers in computers science, writing, executive functioning skills, and edit college applications. Next year, I will be working as an RA in Xanadu, a residence on the lower row.
